A product of the modern game, Dimitri Mascarenhas, having represented England, England Lions, Hampshire, Hampshire 2nd XI, Hobart Hurricanes, Kings XI Punjab, Melbourne Stars, Otago, Rajasthan Royals, Rangpur Riders and Wellington is a well-travelled all-rounder. Mascarenhas was bred in Perth but he learnt his trade at Hampshire. Whilst his batting is all about brute power, his bowling relies upon canny variations. 'Dimi' is also known to be a live-wire on the field.
Mascarenhas enjoyed a memorable county debut, taking 6-88 against Glamorgan in 1996 - the best bowling figures by a Hampshire bowler on debut. Soon, he established himself as a hard-hitting batsman too. Arguably, Shane Warne's influence at Hampshire elevated his all-round prowess to a new plane. However, he had to wait patiently for his international debut.
