About Johan Botha
Johan Botha has seen more than his fair share of ups and downs in a career that has seen him shift base to Australia. He has captained the South African limited overs side but hardly figured in the Test side; he has seen his spinning stock rise and then had his action questioned. And probably most surprising of all, he started off as a medium pacer who could bowl 120 kmph, but switched to spin after the-then South African coach Mickey Arthur suggested the change.
A competitive cricketer, Botha has come a long way towards being an integral part of the South African team, at least in limited overs matches. He did not have the best of starts to his career, being called for chucking on his Test debut in 2006 versus Australia. After being tested, he was subsequently banned by the ICC. However, he remodeled his action, and came back strongly in 2007-08 versus Pakistan. Since then, he has continued to deliver consistently for South Africa.
